The Vantage Engine story 

Superior’s new Vantage Engine has been created and certified to meet the demands of leading general aviation aircraft manufacturers. When it received its FAA certification, the Vantage Engine became the first new-generation 180-horsepower, aircraft piston engine to be designed, built and certified in the United States.

The vast majority of parts offer significant improvements in design, materials and manufacturing when compared to legacy engine design. These advantages create the foundation for the Vantage Engine to provide a higher level of performance, quality, reliability and value than the earlier-generation piston engines it is destined to replace.

No matter how it is measured, the Vantage Engine represents a true advancement in four-cylinder engines capabilities and technologies. It sets the standard by which all engines will be measured – including being the first engine of its type to be certified in the U.S. to run on unleaded automotive gasoline*.

*NOTE: Superior Vantage Engines are certified for 100LL Avgas per ASTM D910, 91/98 (lead optional) and motor gasoline with a minimum antiknock index (R=M/2 method of 91 per ASTM D4814 (European EN228). Use of auto fuel blended with alcohol (ethanol) is forbidden.
