Issue:

Superior Air Parts, Inc. ( Superior ) has discovered that cylinder assemblies identified in this Service Bulletin were manufactured from cylinder barrels that were not properly hardened to specification. The soft cylinder barrels may result in fatigue cracking of the cylinder head. The propagation of this crack may lead to head / barrel separation and loss of power in flight. This bulletin requires the removal of Superior cylinder assemblies with the serial numbers listed in this Service Bulletin. These affected serial numbers were manufactured between April and November 2005.

The E revision of this Service Bulletin revises the serial numbers affected and added Superior Air Parts, Inc. engines. If the serial numbers were previously checked to Revision D, they must be rechecked under Revision E. If the serial numbers were checked on Superior 's website and appropriate contact information was provided, then notification will be provided by the website for the changes that are the subject of this revision.

Time of Compliance:

Removal from service must be accomplished before the affected cylinder attains 150 hours time in service. If cylinders have exceeded 150 hours, they must be replaced within the next ten hours of operation.

Procedure:

If you have an affected cylinder(s) or need to determine if your cylinder(s) are affected, go to Superior 's website www.superiorairparts.com/SB0601 and complete recall Form TSF 005 online. In order to complete the form you should have the cylinder part number(s), serial number(s) and time in service readily available. Once all required information is submitted, you will receive an automatic notification as to whether your cylinders are affected. If affected, you will be contacted by a Superior representative within three (3) business days for instructions on replacement of your cylinders.

Replacement cylinders will be sent in accordance with Superior 's warranty policy and replacement coverage will be handled through Superior 's warranty policy. If you have any questions, you may either email us at SB0601@superiorairparts.com or call the SB0601 hotline at 972-829-4617.

Note:

Superior reserves the right to replace cylinders with either our Standard Cast ® or Investment Cast cylinders.

The cylinders are identified by part number and serial number on the cylinder flange, as shown in Figure 1.
